Rotten Tomatoes is a widely recognised website that aggregates film and television reviews from professional critics and audiences to provide a snapshot of critical and popular opinion. The site uses a distinctive rating system called the "Tomatometer" to indicate the percentage of positive reviews a movie or show has received.
How the Tomatometer Works
Fresh: If at least 60% of the collected reviews for a film or TV show are positive, it earns a "Fresh" rating, symbolized by a red tomato icon.
Rotten: If fewer than 60% of reviews are positive, the title is labelled "Rotten," shown with a green splat icon.
Certified Fresh: This special distinction is given to titles with a Tomatometer score of 75% or higher, provided they meet a minimum number of reviews (typically 80 for wide releases, including at least 5 from "Top Critics").
Audience Score
In addition to critic reviews, Rotten Tomatoes also displays an Audience Score, which reflects the percentage of users who have rated the film or show positively. This provides a broader perspective by showing both critical and general audience reactions
The Tomatometer score is calculated only after a minimum number of reviews are submitted, with the threshold depending on the film's projected box office performance
Symbol Score Range Description

Green Splat 0%–59% Rotten (negative critical consensus)
