In a surprising turn of events, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been indefinitely suspended, leaving fans and players in a state of uncertainty. This unprecedented move comes from the BCCI.
IPL 2025 Suspended for Indefinite?
The BCCI and IPL management decided to call off the IPL season 18 in the mid-way. The decision is intensified after the PBKS vs DC match was abandoned due to security concerns.
Update: As per the latest media release, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, announced that IPL 2025 will be suspended with immediate effect for one week. The further decisions on venues and schedules will be taken after assessment of the situation.
For players, both domestic and international, the suspension has created uncertainty. Many foreign players have visa timelines and commitments to their national teams. Disrupting their IPL schedules could affect performance, preparation, and contract obligations.
Will LSG vs RCB Match Happen Today?
The Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore match on May 9, 2025, is cancelled. According to the reports, the team members of LSG and RCB are headed to their homes after the suspension of the Indian Premier League.
Previously, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, on May 8, was abandoned in the middle. Initially delayed by rain, the game was halted when PBKS were at 122/1, following a red alert issued in Jammu. Players and fans were evacuated from the HPCA Stadium as a precautionary measure.
Before the interruption, Priyansh Arya scored a rapid 70 off 34 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh remained unbeaten on 50.
The director of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), Sanjay Sharma, said that it is unfortunate for the biggest cricket tournament, but the match has to be abandoned. Here is what ANI published on X.com on this conversation.

What Happens to the Remaining Matches After IPL Suspension
The IPL suspension was officially announced on May 9, 2025, after a mid-game power outage at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. It forced the abandonment of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, sparking major safety concerns.
After the IPL 2025 suspension, 12 league matches and the playoffs remain. The BCCI is considering rescheduling them in September 2025, after India’s international fixtures, with South Africa as a possible alternate venue since the UAE is unavailable due to the Pakistan Super League.
Before the suspension, 57 matches had been completed. The 58th match, scheduled for May 8 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, was abandoned due to a power outage. The 59th match, scheduled for May 9, was not played due to the suspension. Here is the IPL 2025 Points Table for now –

IPL 2025 New Schedule & Venue Updates
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering rescheduling the remaining matches, potentially in September 2025, after India-Bangladesh fixtures. Furthermore, BCCI may relocate the tournament to a neutral venue, like South Africa is also under consideration, especially since the United Arab Emirates, previously used during COVID-19 disruptions, may be unavailable due to conflicting Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixtures.
